Merrill is a village located in Jonesfield Township in Saginaw County. The 2010 census put the population around 780 residents within the .70 square mile village limits. Residents are offered a free post office box at the local post office and free wifi is offered at EJ’s Bar & Grill, and the Merrill District Library.
Garbage, yard waste and snow removal, as well as recycling services are provided by the village to all residents. The village also maintains a park and children’s Play Scape on Majoney Street.
Merrill is also known for its annual Farm Fest held every August. Community wide rummage sales, an ice cream social, lawn mower pulls, softball tournament, and musical entertainment are just a few of the treats planned for this year’s festival!
In 2011 a bond extension was passed which allowed the school system to complete the following updates: installation of new ventilators, boilers, flooring, roofs, windows; interactive whiteboards and projectors in every room, new computers in labs and wireless internet; upgraded emergency lights, new P.A. system, CO2 and light sensors.
Merrill Community Schools have partnered with both Delta College and Merrill Institute to offer post-secondary credits. This partnership allows Merrill students to work towards a degree or certificate while still in high school. Merrill schools also offer a virtual school program allowing students to earn their diploma through online classes.
